Personal Profile

Hi! I'm McKenzie Salters, a passionate and driven student at the University of Idaho, currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Criminology & Sociology, alongside a certificate in Equity & Justice. I also hold an Associate of Arts in Criminal Justice from the College of Western Idaho. Born in Seattle, WA, I relocated to Eugene, OR, within the past two years and have since embraced all that the Pacific Northwest has to offer—especially its adventure-filled landscapes and beautiful coastline. I’m an avid adventurer who loves exploring the outdoors, and I’m always seeking new experiences.

My academic and professional journey is deeply influenced by my commitment to understanding the intersections of criminal justice, victimology, and trauma-informed care. Currently, I work as a victim advocate for a nonprofit focused on supporting survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. This experience has fueled my passion for victimology and the self-empowerment model, helping me develop a compassionate approach to supporting those affected by trauma.

My long-term career goals include earning a Master of Social Work (MSW) or a Master’s in Forensic Psychology, with the aim of working with either children or adult offenders. One of my key inspirations is Dr. Ann Burgess, whose groundbreaking work in forensic nursing, victim advocacy, and trauma-informed care has profoundly influenced my path. I aspire to integrate her work into my own career, advancing the field of forensic science while providing critical support to those impacted by trauma.

Through my academic pursuits and hands-on experience in advocacy, I have developed a strong foundation in crisis intervention, case management, and multidisciplinary collaboration. I am driven by a commitment to equity and justice, always seeking ways to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals navigating difficult circumstances.
